Greenpeace denuncia a pesqueras europeas

Las grandes empresas pesqueras roban unas 300 mil toneladas anuales de pescado del Pacífico.

Pesqueras europeas y latinoamericanas, como Albacora, Calvopesca, Nirsa y Conservas Garavilla, faenan ilegalmente en el Pacífico central y occidental, denunció Greenpeace en un nuevo informe.

El activista Jason Collins, de Greenpeace, explicó a Efe que presentarán el documento al Comité de Conformidad Técnica de la Comisión de Pesquerías del Pacífico Central y Occidental, en la reunión que celebrará esta semana en los Estados Federados de Micronesia.

Collins dijo que la organización ecologista participará en las sesiones como observador, y explicó que existen dos problemas básicos en el Pacífico: «Agujeros negros» en las zonas económicas exclusivas y traslados de mercancías de un barco a otro para saltarse las regulaciones.

Greenpeace propone a los gobiernos del Pacífico que cuando negocien sus acuerdos de pesca con la Unión Europea o con otros países lo hagan como bloque multilateral, en una acción unificada y concertada, para que se apliquen las mismas normas en toda la región.

Las grandes empresas pesqueras roban unas 300 mil toneladas anuales de pescado del Pacífico, valoradas en cuantías muy superiores a los ingresos que sus licencias generan para los países de la región, según la organización.
